How to Pick Your Own Flowers

Updated: 5 days ago

Walking into a field with thousands of flowers in their prime can be intimidating! We get it! Our You Picks are open and we don’t want you feeling lost out there. Here’s a simple guide to help you get the best out of your You Pick bouquet!

  1. When you get to the farm, park in the grass, visit the roadside stand and pay. $30/cup and $15/kids vase.

  2. When you get your cup, add some floral water, grab a caddy (if you desire), and pick up some snips.

  3. Walk down the small driveway to the flower field entrance. There should be a sign near the entrance!

  4. Only pick flowers in the field. Flowers outside of the field are not a part of the You Picks

  5. Enter the field, relax, get ready to enjoy! We are all friends here!

  6. While in the field, it’s super important to stay on the walking paths ONLY. This is for your safety and to keep our irrigation and fertilization system intact.

  7. Don’t pick/cut anything marked with pink tags or mesh bags. Pink tags mean the flowers are immature and mesh bags are part of our breeding program.

  8. Browse the field first, decide what colors or flowers really stick out. Some people find it helpful to pick a color scheme. Do want pastel, dark, or bold?

  9. Start cutting flowers, cutting deep on the stem. You can always cut off more stem, if needed, but you can’t add more once you’ve cut!

  10. Strip any buds and leaves that will touch the water. This gives you more space in your cup and keeps the water cleaner. Feel free to dispose of greens in the grass, in the caddies, or even on the walking paths.

  11. Take lots of pictures and videos! Be sure to share publicly on social media, tagging us for your chance to be entered into our monthly drawing!

  12. Return snips and caddy!

How to pick a great bouquet

Many guests find it helpful to follow the 3-5-8 guidelines that you will see professional florists follow to get eye-catching bouquets.

  1. Pick 3 Focal flowers — these are the main flowers. They are prominent, eye-catching, and large. Zinnias, sunflower, dahlias, Lisianthus.

  2. Pick 5 greenery/Textural Stems – these fill space and depth, adding unique elements. Basil, grasses, nigella, cress, shrub greens, mint, cosmos greens.

  3. Pick 8 Accent Flowers – these are softer, smaller flowers that help balance the bouquet and its colors. Smaller zinnias, statice, queen Anne’s lace, rudbeckia, cosmos, strawflower, snapdragons, celosia.

Using this method will give you a balanced, beautiful bouquet!
